The German designer Jil Sander launched her namesake label in 1973. She was known fro her minimalistic style and was a huge influence in fashion from the the 80s until today.
The house was sold to the Prada group in 1999. In 2017, the couple Lucie and Luke Meier were appointed as creative directors of the brand.
The two met in Florence, Italy, at the Polimoda fashion school: He grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was an exchange student from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology; she, a native of the Alpine town of Zermatt, Switzerland, was studying fashion marketing. The two began dating the following year after taking a summer road trip around Italy and France together, and were married in 2007. As co-creative directors of Jil Sander since 2017, they are one of the rare husband-and-wife teams working in fashion today, but their professional lives weren’t always so intertwined.
