CORMIO X BDC
Jezabelle Cormio, graduate founded her brand just after graduating in 2013 from the renowned Royal Academy of Antwerp. Her eccentric, frilly and print-heavy menswear collection was immediately picked up by Opening Ceremony. In her following collections, Cormio started focussing on womenswear, but designed a selection of exclusive limited edition Men´s shirts for BDC. The shirts is that they are a re-edition of the original shirts I produced for opening ceremony in 2013, taken from her MA grad collection. At the time her motto for the whole collection was to propose a wardrobe for men who could personify romance as a form of rebellion. In today's terms they are an antidote to toxic masculinity. Cormio re-visited various prints from my archives between 2013 and today, such as the Valentine's Day card poodles and the spray painted flower prints, the crystal swans. I also developed new prints following the same vibe, such as the 'Mother' poem print, which was based on a souvenir pillow I found from the 1930's. These pillows would be purchased by men in the navy and then sent or brought back to their mothers.
